Gowdia

The History.

There is no recorded history of this region. Most map makers don't even take the time to draw any details of this land, leaving it only a blank section with the text "Gowdia" after the border. In fact, if it wasn't for infamous rumors, horror stories, and lost loved ones, most people wouldn't even know the region existed.

There have never been any notable cities formed there. There have never even been any settlement there. This could be do to, in part, that most who go there either never come back.

The the last two thousand years of recorded history no empire or army has even attempted to conquer these lands. Most notably, even the Great Hailimir Empire never even attempted to truely cross the borders. Near the end of the empire many watchtowers were placed along the borders. This had more to do with polical and economic reason that for true defense however. None the less several abandoned towers can still be found.

The Land.

Savage lands in this large civilizations can hardly thrive. The wildlife isn't initially dangerous, however travellers often find themselves in dangerous situations. The land is loud, and often seems unhappy with visiters.

There have been <strike>foolish</strike> brave souls who have attempted to trek the land. Some for exploration, like map making or to simply discover the unknown. Some for profit; seeking lost treasures or hidden cashes of minerals. Nothing has ever been reported. Worst yet, even when groups of explorers travel the same areas at different times of the year they seem to record different terran and landmaps. Almost as if there terrain is constantly changing.

Although the locations cand specifics often vary, all of those who return tell of the same stories. Stories of violent thunderstorms appearing out of no where. It would rain in torrent, nearly flood everything. Then a few hours later, it would be dry again. Although the locations cand specifics often vary, all of those who return tell of the same stories. Stories of violent thunderstorms appearing out of no where. It would rain in torrent, nearly flood everything. Then a few hours later, it would be dry again. Some stories talked about cliffs and moutnains so steep and sharp that they were unclimbable. Forest so think, it was unnavigatable, and unpassable. Rivers with waterfall that could fall for a mile, endless rapids, and currents so strong that even drinking from it could steal you away. At time the hills and peeks would revolt with tremors and roaring; filling the skies with smoke and ash that could last for hours and sometimes days.

Resources in terms of precious metals and other similar vaulables are either non existant or have never been found – not that many who may have found any returned. Fresh water, lush forests, and bountiful vegitation is very much present. Wild game, and other easy prey are also bountiful. However, the remote locations, tretarous paths, locals and other hazzards keep outsiders from being able or willing to exact or make a larger use of these.

If there was one thing, that every would be visit should know is that this land knows you are there, it doesn't like you and you will be either forced to live maimed, or forced to stay forever dead.

The Locals.

Those who do call this land home seem to calm it down through great reverence and near worship. All encountered humanoids have diverse and often complicated rituals and ceremonies. Usually clothed in the most natural attire, using nothing that could be considered manufactured. This is due to the inability to manufacture or smith many materials. Some story tellers have claimed seeing some using metals, however much like everything about this land; its unprovable.

There are actually few humans. Or rather, less humans that other humanoids. Or perhaps no one just has ever really ever seen any humans. Perhaps because they are more prone to attacking, often stories of bands of kobalds, goblins and the like seem to prove they are the most abundant.

With that said, what few non hostile or non-hidden group have been found (human or otherwise) have shown that most do exist is a type of tribe. Due to natural barriers and lack of outside communication the language common does not exist. Most tribes speak their native tongue, but even then it is only something that might have once been their native tongue. Years of isolations has proven to create such diverse dialectsthat they are unreconizable. Across tribe communication has never been witnessed and so it is unknown if there is difficultly on that front.

The locals often come across as savage to outsiders, and this is very true. But this is mostly true because as an outsider it is impossible to understand how life must be lived in these lands. In the end, most outsiders don't want in, and the locals don't want any outsiders; Such is the way of life.
